How does massage work?
Our bodies are controlled by our central nervous system. The nervous system is essentially energy (biochemical, electromagnetic and vibrational). When there is a break down in communication, symptoms such as pain, anxiety, depression can result. At Harvest of Peace we consider these communication breakdowns to be traumatic events, because they cause a disruption to your normal, peaceful state of being. What is traumatic for one person, may not be traumatic for another.
When Trauma happens to you (it happens to all of us), small packets of energy can get trapped. If you are unaware or unable to release them, they can fester, leading to all sorts of debilitating pain, disease and general unpleasantness. Trauma does not have to occur as a big event like a car accident or broken bone. Small, repeated events like your daily jog or stressful work environment can cause just as much harm to our body, mind, spirit and emotional bodies as large events.
A monthly massage can help to release those packets of energy, freeing your body from the pain, tension, and inflammation that stands in the way of free flowing circulation and lymphatic drainage. A monthly massage paired with a healthy diet, and daily stress relieving practices can help you maintain a balanced eco-system.
“It’s hard to put into words how I feel after my very first craniosacral therapy session. Having had a bad massage experience years ago, I was apprehensive. Theresa reassured me that this was totally different. To say I was skeptical, after she demonstrated the light touch, would be an understatement honestly.
I was awkward and self-conscious, but I was quickly put at ease and began to relax. Despite my skepticism, I began to feel changes that seemed unexplainable. I felt tension release, I felt points of pain I had just gotten used to release for the first time in years, I felt areas loosen and almost stretch (while never moving), and even teared up for some crazy reason (releasing emotional trauma apparently). I am a believer, will be going back, and can’t recommend Theresa highly enough. She’s sweet and totally put me at ease. Worth it.” -Jessica M.
How can massage help resolve trauma?
At Harvest of Peace, we utilize several modalities to assist your body in letting go of trapped trauma. These include:
- Trauma informed therapy. First and foremost Harvest of Peace is a safe place for all people who come for rest and healing. We strive to be a safe place for all genders, races, religions, political persuasions, nationalities, and ages. If there is anything I can do to make you feel more comfortable, please just let me know. I will do my best to accommodate you.
- CranioSacral Therapy (Upledger Institute Training)-a gentle hands-on treatment that may provide relief from a variety of symptoms including headaches, neck pain and side effects of cancer treatment, PTSD, ADHD, among many others. CST uses a light touch to examine membranes and movement of fluids in and around the central nervous system. CST can be done fully clothed.
- Neural Manipulation (Barral Training)- Gentle hands-on treatment that is specifically designed to treat whiplash by focusing on areas of the body that hold trauma from physical events like MVA, car accidents, sports injuries involving head and neck, thoracic outlet syndrome, sciatic pain and more. Can be helpful for trauma that happened long ago too.
- Swedish Massage Techniques– Promotes relaxations and reduces stress, improves blood circulation, enhances overall flexibility. The top tear for relaxation massage and calming the nervous system.
- Deep Tissue– Alleviates chronic muscle tension, helps with postural issues and improves mobility. Assists in the recovery from sports related injuries.
- Hot Stones and Heat Packs-Provides deep relaxation and stress relief, Eases muscle stiffness and chronic pain, enhances detoxification and boosts metabolism. Heat packs are used in all Harvest of Peace massage. Hot Stones are excellent to help you connect with the Earth element.
- Reiki Energy Work-a way of guiding energy throughout the body to promote the recipient’s self-healing abilities. Reiki is included in all Harvest of Peace Massages.
- Sound Therapy (singing bowls, meditative music, and tuning forks). Tools used to help reset vibrational energy patterns. Sometimes we use broad strokes (music and singing bowls) sometimes we use a scalpel (tuning forks).
- Topical Treatments and Aromatherapy- (essential oils, herbal wraps, herbal exfoliators, and targeted massage oils)- utilizing the healing power of herbs and oils to assist the body in healing. All of these treatments work primarily on the skin (your body’s largest organ that interfaces with the outside world) and lymphatic system (an often underappreciated system of the body that lies just below the skin and is responsible for flushing fluids throughout the body)
- Cupping Therapy rather than applying pressure, vaccume cups create a pulling effect which can create space within cells to break up stagnation.
- Intra-oral Massage. I have been endorsed by the Washington Department of Health to conduct intra-oral massage. This is excellent for treating TMJ disorders and can be very useful when treating whiplash and other head and neck issues.
- Guided Meditation coming soon!
- Manual Lymphatic Drainage Coming Soon! In early May 2024 I will be certified in the Vodder technique of MLD through the Academy of Lymphatic Studies.
- Body Wraps and Scrubs coming soon!
**Massage is not a substitute for medical diagnosis but rather, an integral part of your overall health care plan. I would be honored to be part of your health care team!
***Many of these techniques can be done fully clothed so please wear loose fitting/stretchy garments to your appointment. T-shirts and sweats or yoga wear is perfect!

- You will be prompted to fill out your intake and consent forms online so make sure you have a good, safe internet connection. Say good bye to paperwork!
- Creating a Jane account helps you manage your care and minimizes phone tag. As a massage therapist, my phone is always on silent mode and it may take me several days to get back to you.
- Currently, I am not accepting health insurance. However, upon request, I can provide you with a superbill that will include the necessary medical codes for you to get reimbursed.
- For auto accident, MVA or PIP clients, please send me an email prior to booking so I can check your benefits and make sure we are a good fit for each other. Please include the name of the injured person, insurance company phone number and case number. Your insurance company will likely require you to have a physicians referral for massage. Their rules, not mine. Advocate for yourself by letting your insurance company know you would like to make your own health care decisions regarding massage. Needing a referral slows your ability to receive care.
